2008 PRO STOCK
RULES
1. COMPETING MODELS:
Open to any passenger car or 2-WD light duty pickup truck from 1960 –
present date. No jeeps, corvettes, convertibles, citations, vegas,
corvairs, falcons, gremlins, monza types, 4-WD’s, sports cars, or
compact cars. Vehicles not covered under these exclusions do not mean
they are pure stock material. Consult tech inspector as to the legality
of the vehicle before building. Some models may not be included in the
above exclusions. To avoid disappointment and expense, please check
with us before you build a car. Ford and Mopar bodies and engines will
be allowed on GM frames.
SAFETY RULES - The
following rules are mandatory and will be strictly enforced.
1 All cars are
subject to inspection at anytime, and must be free from mechanical
defects and be in safe racing condition. OFFICIAL’S DECISION WILL BE
FINAL!
2. ROLL CAGE: NO
OFFSET CAGES. Must be minimum 1 ½" outside diameter (1/8" wall thickness
highly recommended), no soft metals (aluminum, etc.) allowed. The
mandatory six-point cage must surround the driver w/uprights mounted on
the right and left sides of the frame behind the driver, one on each
side. There are several allowable variations to this basic design, which
are subject to the discretion of the technical inspector. His decision
is final. The four bars joining the four uprights in a horizontal plane
and one (1) horizontal cross support above the driver’s head must be at
least two inches above helmet height of the driver when strapped in the
car/truck. The front down tubes must be no further than 21-1/2" back of
the front body mount and must extend to the front of the top roll
cage. Rear main cage uprights must not pass rear trailing arm mounts.
Mounts must be in stock OEM locations. There must be at least three
horizontal bars on both sides of the car connecting the uprights on the
driver’s side of the car in the door cavity and at least one bar must be
extended to the outer door skin for added driver protection. These bars
must have at least one set of vertical supports between the uprights.
There must be at least three horizontal bars connecting the uprights on
the passenger side of the car w/vertical supports between the uprights.
The right and left uprights in front of the driver must be connected
with at least one horizontal bar at dash height. Additional diagonal
support bar on left side of chassis from top front of cage down to side.
These are minimum allowable bar requirements and of course more are
preferred. All junctions of two or more tubes in the cage must be
gusseted for additional strength with at least 1/8" plate steel gussets.
Threaded pipe, pipe fittings, lap weld pipe, soft metals like aluminum,
angle or channel iron, and flush grinding of welds are not permitted.
A minimum clearance of 2” is required between the top of the driver’s
helmet and the underside of the horizontal roll cage bars.
3. SEATS: All cars
must be equipped with a safe racing seat, high back type recommended.
Seat must be securely fastened (bolted or welded) to the roll cage
and/or frame in six spots, with a minimum of six 3/8 bolts. Four (4) on
the bottom and two (2) on the seat back. "NO FLOORBOARD INSTALLATIONS."
The seat must be positioned completely to the left of the centerline of
the car (no center steering) on the driver’s side. A functional padded
headrest must be in line with center of driver’s head if not built into
seat. NO SET BACK SEATS. NO FIBERGLASS SEATS.
4. WINDOW SCREEN:
All cars must have a full steel wind screen of substantial material with
a maximum opening on individual holes at 1 x 1 (minimum 16 gauge
material) (no chicken wire or aluminum) and be reinforced by a minimum
of three (3) steel bars connected to the roll cage on top and the dash
support bar on the bottom (cold roll). Screen must cover entire
windshield area left to right across the cage and from top of cage down
to hood or cowl. Side window net is highly recommended.
5. FIREWALL: OEM
stock or optional sheet metal firewalls. No tipped or angled front
firewalls. Must be installed at 90o to frame.
6. All crews must
carry an operable fire extinguisher capable of extinguishing gas and oil
fires.
7. BATTERY: Battery
may be located in any position. It must be enclosed in a six-sided metal
box, which is securely fastened to the car with at least two (2) straps
securing the box to the cage or frame - "NOT to floorboards".
RECOMMENDED: A battery master shut off switch that is mounted, marked,
and easily accessible to the safety crew.
8. SWITCHES: All cars
must have an ignition switch, which is easily accessible within the
driver’s compartment. The ignition switch should be labeled ON/OFF with
bright colored paint for safety crew to recognize.
9. FUEL SHUT-OFF
VALVE (recommended) (within easy reach of driver) shall be labeled
ON/OFF with a bright colored paint for the safety crew to recognize.
10. FUEL / POWER
STEERING LINES: All lines and fittings running through the driver’s
compartment must be of approved type. Any non-steel braided line must be
enclosed in steel tubing. NO plastic or glass fuel filters allowed.
11. BRAKES: Operable
and effective four-wheel hydraulic brakes mandatory at all times. No
three wheel, left side, or shut off set-ups allowed. Speedway may
conduct brake tests during the season. Disc brakes will be allowed
providing that rotors, calipers, and mounting brackets are all stock OEM
parts. (NO ALUMINUM AFTER MARKET PARTS.) The use of dual master
cylinders with proportioning adjustment will not be allowed. Master
cylinder may be of any style dual reservoir, single piston assembly.
12. WHEELS: Minimum
five (5) oversized lug nuts, wheels must be reinforced, "Steel only".
Recommended: Racing wheels and oversized studs. Maximum width 8", bead
lock rims permitted. No bleeders.
13. EXHAUST: Stock
manifolds or conventional headers only. Exhaust terminations
must be behind the driver, exhaust cannot exit through door or body and
must not point to the ground.
14. Inspectors reserve
the right to request body or sheet metal to be replaced and painted if
it has any sharp edges or is not looking presentable to the sport.
No sharp edges on bumpers.
15. THROTTLE SPRINGS:
Minimum two (2) required. All linkages must be made of tubing, no
all thread. Throttle stop highly recommended.
BODY SPECIFICATIONS
1. BODY - must be stock appearing in stock location on
frame. "NO CHOPPING OR CHANNELING." No flat
sheet metal. It will be acceptable to use up to present date
stock steel sheet metal bodies, or steel or aluminum after market bodies
providing they look stock and match up to the wheel base of the frame
being used. Aluminum bodies allowed. Left side
door panel MUST be .080 thick (separate interior panel may be
installed). No open hood scoops or air induction systems. The
officials reserve the right to reject any car that the body does not look
or fit properly. "NO FLAT SHEET METAL" *Stock manufactured sheet
metal or an exact replica required and must maintain the OEM fit*. Full
fenders only, with reasonable radius cut for tire clearance allowed. Inner
fender panels may be removed if fender remains secure. Steel engine
firewall is mandatory with all holes securely covered (sheet metal only).
Full rear firewall and rear window shelf must seal off driver
compartment from trunk area. Rusted floorboards must be securely
sheet metaled over to stock configuration to seal off driver’s
compartment. Any holes in floorboards for shifter, etc. must be no larger
than necessary to facilitate the shift pattern. Shifter boots are
2. FLOORBOARDS: OEM stock floorboards or optional
sheet metal floorboards. Must have center
drive shaft tunnel. Maximum tunnel height
will be 12” from left side floor board.
3. ROOFS: Must
remain at stock height specifications. No angled or tipped roofs for
aerodynamic advantage. Side window openings must be within 1 ½” front
to rear. OEM or fiberglass replicas. “NO homemade square roofs”.
4. FENDERS: Cut for
clearance is allowed, but, must be straight cut or rolled under. No
outward rolls of fenders will be allowed.
5. PICKUP TRUCKS:
Must maintain minimum wheel base specifications for stock cars-minimum
105” wheel base. No 4 wheel drives. Extra cab trucks allowed – highly
recommended to maintain good 6 point cage configurations. Cabs & beds
must be in stock location on chassis.
Small block –
GM Crate 602, 358 or 408 cubic inch engines only. No big block in
S-10 or Ranger trucks. All other stock car rules apply to trucks.
CHASSIS
SPECIFICATIONS
1. FRAME:
Uni-bodies may tie sub-frames together. If the ties extend through the
car, the floor must be completely welded to the tie to seal off the
driver’s compartment. Frames may be repaired where needed but the stock
frame rails must remain in stock location. "NO FRONT WHEEL DRIVE
CHASSIS." Frame may be shortened in the tub area only to accommodate
shorter wheel-base bodies (front and rear stubs must remain stock).
NOTE: On uni-bodied
cars only, a homemade frame may be constructed using steel rectangular
tubing only with a minimum specification of 2" x 3" .120 wall thickness.
The 3" dimension must be in a vertical position. If using this option it
must start at rear of the front stock OEM sub-frame and continue all the
way back. Springs and locating bars for rear will be measured and
compared to stock specifications for legality. The proper construction
of this frame option on welds, cross members, roll cage and brace
tie-ins will be up to the discretion of the officials. An X brace must
be constructed to tie the frame rails together at the front cage loop,
passing under the driver’s seat. Frames must be kicked out equally on
the right and left sides. *See attached drawing.
2. STEERING: Steering
column must remain in stock location right to left, front to back.
Steering quickeners are allowed. Quick release is mandatory.
3. RADIATOR: Only one
(1) per car. Must remain in front of the engine in stock location
between frame rails. 25 lb. psi cap recommended. Catch can mandatory. It
is recommended to double clamp all hose connections. No electric
fans.
4. ENGINE LOCATION:
Must remain in stock location in chassis, left and right. Engine must be
from the make chassis it is in. Engine set back: will be at its maximum
and verified when the center of the center of the number one spark plug
hole, on all make engines (furthest cylinder forward) is in line with
the center of the top ball joint. NO SLIDING MOTOR MOUNTS. NO
CUTTING CROSS MEMBERS FOR FUEL PUMP CLEARANCE. Number 4 cylinder
(spark plug) must be in center shock mounting position on GM products.
(metric cars) Monte Carlo, Impalas, Grand Prix, No. 1 plug must be
in line with center of ball joint on No. 1 cyl.
5. TRANSMISSION:
Automatics must have working stock OEM torque converters with all gears
working. Three and four speeds must have two (2) forward and one (1)
reverse gears working and have stock OEM single clutch disc mounted in
stock location. Steel flywheels only. No aluminum clutch parts. Stock
flywheel diameter. NO DRILLING OR MACHINING for lightening purposes
allowed. No over or under drives. No after market transmissions.
Transmissions must be of conventional design. No small diameter
clutches or flywheel.
6. SCATTERSHIELD:
Steel scatter shields or steel scatter proof bell housings for standard
transmission cars are recommended. Automatic transmission explosion
blankets are highly recommended. ALL BELL HOUSINGS MUST HAVE HOLE
DRILLED IN AT TOP AND BOTTOM TO INSPECT FLYWHEEL AND CONVERTER.
7. DRIVE SHAFT: Steel
drive shaft only. Steel drive flanges on rear and transmission only. All
cars must have a suitable drive shaft sling behind transmission, under
front U-Joint, in case of failure, to prevent drive shaft from digging
into track or bouncing out or up into a car. The drive shaft must be
painted white or orange. Must have 180o strap under rear
of shaft.
8. REAR END:
Differential housing must be in stock location. Stock type rears only.
Passenger car only. No truck or wide rears allowed. No quick changes.
Welded spiders or steel spool only. No limited slip allowed. It is
recommended that integral type rears with horseshoe clip holding axles
in be tack-welded to prevent fall-out. Five (5) lug nuts per wheel
mandatory. No aluminum spools. OPTIONAL: A Ford 9" rear may be
installed in any chassis providing it utilizes all the same parts needed
to hold in the rear end that was replaced. NOTE: It must be in the same
location, front to back and be centered in chassis. Also, the same
springing and positioning of springs that the chassis had in stock OEM
form. Adjustable tubular upper or lower trailing arms allowed, but must
maintain stock lengths.
9. FRONT END: (Except
shocks) must be stock type components and location. Minimum of five (5)
lug nuts and lugs per wheels, mandatory. Highly recommended: Wheel lugs
be 5/8" in diameter and must go past the full thickness of the wheel
nut. This must be on all four corners of race car.
10. WHEELBASE AND
TREAD: Must maintain stock specifications for chassis running with a
minimum wheelbase of 105". No wheel base setbacks. No rear end offsets,
this applies to all four corners. Maximum tread width, front and rear
80" maximum ½ " tolerance for all cars. Measured from outside of side
walls.
11. SUSPENSION: All
parts must remain stock with the following exceptions: front spindles
may be interchanged GM to GM, FORD to FORD, CHRYSLER to CHRYSLER.
Upper Control Arms only, stock, or tubular aftermarket style permitted
providing they are not adjustable type, must be steel only or crossbar
steel only. ALL MOUNTING LOCATIONS MUST BE STOCK. Rear arms
may be tubular but must remain stock dimensions.
12. SPRINGS: Must be
original stock type and location (leaf for leaf, coil for coil, torsion
bar for torsion bar). Stock sway bar allowed. No helper springs. Steel
springs only. (No carbon fiber).
13. SHOCKS: No air
shocks, coil over, load-levelers, etc. No air bags. No aluminum or
adjustable shocks, steel only, no rebuildable shocks.
14. BRAKES: Operable
and effective four-wheel hydraulic brakes mandatory at all times. No
three wheel, left side, or shut off set-ups allowed. Speedway may
conduct brake tests during the season. Rear disc brakes may be installed
if that particular model chassis had used them in production and
providing that rotor and calipers and mounting brackets are all stock
OEM parts. The use of dual master cylinders or adjustable proportioning
valves will not be allowed. Master cylinder may be of any style dual
reservoir, single piston assembly.
15. BUMPERS: Front:
May be securely reinforced under and at the ends of the splash guard in
order to remain stock appearing. No factory hard plastic or fiberglass
noses. Aftermarket soft nose permitted. “No MD3 nose pieces.”
Rear: Stock
OEM-style or soft plastic tail pieces permitted. Optional: tubular
rear bumper permitted of round or rectangular tubing must be mounted in
direct line of frame rails. Maximum tubing size will be 2” round or 2 x
4 rectangular. Bumper ends must not pass outer edge of body and ends
must not have any sharp edges or hook-style ends. Ends must be rounded
off.
Stock bumpers
front and rear must have ends rolled into body metal to eliminate hook
ends on bumpers. All bumpers must be securely fastened and neat in
appearance. Bumper rules will be strictly enforced and at the
discretion of the track official.
16. FUEL TANK: FUEL
CELL MANDATORY!! Fuel cell height 12" minimum from ground to bottom of
tank. Fuel cell must be fully encased in a steel container with a
minimum thickness of 20 gauge. An optional aluminum container may be
used with a minimum thickness of .060". Fuel cell must retain foam
inside. Fuel lines must siphon from top only. Fuel tank vent line must
have an in-line one-way valve for the prevention of fuel spillage. No
auxiliary tanks. Recommended fuel cells meet FIA/SPEC/FT-3 or SEI
28.1/2.2. Specification. Integral ball check valve highly recommended
for filler neck and vent tube. Maximum 22 U.S. gallon must be located in
the trunk area only. Must be square or rectangular in shape only. No
access holes for filler neck. Trunk must have to be opened to re-fuel.
All fuel lines and fittings must be leak proof. Gussets must be used
where supports attach to the main frame rails. Two (2) skid rails must
be installed under the fuel cell, running front to rear the entire width
of the fuel cell with minimum 1/8" x 2" material. Cell must be securely
strapped down by at least two 1/8" x 1" steel straps to existing
supports by use of at least 5/16 grade 5(3 line) bolts. Technical
inspector can reject any fuel cell mounting he deems unsafe. NOTE: 32
Gallon fuel cell may be used for events of longer duration.
17. BALLAST WEIGHT:
If ballast weight is needed to make weight, it must be securely bolted
to the inside of both frame rails and ahead of fuel cell and be painted
white and carry the car’s number. Use of minimum two ½” grade 5 bolts
or greater. Maximum of 75 lb. per weight pack.
18. TIRES: Tires:
Passenger car tires or racing tires are permitted. When using passenger
car tires only DOT street radials are permitted, with a tread width no
wider than 11”. American Racer (McCreary) 84/8-15 DT, 82/8-15 DT,
and 86/8-15 DT, Hoosier 27.5/8.0-15 RC4, 26 5/8.0-15 SCL, 27 5/8.0-15
SCL. HARD only. Right and left rear hard mandatory.
19. WEIGHT: Minimum
weight will be 2800 for GM Crate No. 602 alternative engine; 3000 for
spec. 358 engines; 3200 for non spec. engines. Weight is with
driver, at conclusion of heat or feature race. Weight is at Speedway, on
Speedway scales, "THE TRACK SCALES ARE OFFICIAL". NOTE: Any car
utilizing the 2 barrel option in their respective weight category may
receive an additional 100 lb. Weight break, you must declare your
carburetor prior to the event to receive your weight break.
20. GM CRATE 602
OPTION, 361 to 408 and SPEC 358 ENGINE RULES:
GM CRATE NO. 602
MAYBE USED AND RECEIVE BODY AND WEIGHT CONCESSIONS. No. 602 motor has
a part number for each item as sold, any item is subject to inspection.
All part numbers and casting numbers must be visible for inspection. SPEC. 358: NON-PORTED STOCK OEM BLOCK AND HEADS ONLY! NO 400 BLOCKS.
ENGINES MUST REMAIN STOCK AS MANUFACTURED WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS:
A. Only North
American passenger car V-8 manufactured engines allowed with a maximum
displacement of 358 cu.in. plus 3 cu.in. wear allowance.
B. The engine block
and all internal parts must meet stock specifications for its make. No
Bow-Tie heads or blocks allowed. No Ford SVO or special race parts
or Chrysler race parts. Please call for info on these products.
C. All engines must
maintain stock bore and stroke combinations. Example: Chevy 350 cu.in.,
4" bore x 3.480" stroke. Chry. 360 cu.in. 4" bore x 3.578" stroke. Chry
340 cu.in. 4.040" bore x 3.313" stroke. Ford cu.in. 4" bore x 3.5"
stroke. ONLY THE FOLLOWING ENGINES AND OVERBORES LISTED BELOW WILL BE
ACCEPTED! Chevy – 350 cu.in. up to .060" (max.) Ford – 351 cu.in. up to
.060" (max.) Chrysler – 360 cu.in. up to .010" (max.) Chrys. 340 cu.in.
up to .060" (max.)
D. ALL ENGINE PARTS
MUST HAVE CASTING OR PART NUMBERS ON THEM FOR IDENTIFICATION
E. CYLINDER HEADS:
Special note. Sand blasting, bead blasting, acid-etching, porting,
polishing, and welding are prohibited. No relieving or unshrouding of
valves in the combustion chamber. The Ford GT 40, Chevy bow-tie, Ford
performance, and GM Angle Plug heads will not be allowed. WORLD PRODUCT
Chevy Part Numbers 4265, 4266, 4267 will be allowed. WORLD PRODUCT
Ford Part Number 5303 will be allowed. Chrysler W-2 is allowed. See
"Special Notes" Valve head sizes optional providing they maintain stock
OEM positioning in valve guides (distance apart and angles). Valve guide
liners will be allowed. Any angle valve job will be permitted as long as
it is done on a machine that cuts concentric to the valve guide center.
There will be no hand grinding, sanding, blending or deburring where a
cutter or stone leaves off. The amount of metal you will be able to
remove in the bowl areas on both intake and exhaust will be governed by
the same method used by Speedway inspectors. Method of checking will be
as follows: On the exhaust side the header will have to be removed and
then the inspector will place a tool in the port which will consist of a
.531" diameter ball bearing welded to a flexible shaft. With the valve
fully opened the ball will be placed against the valve stem and moved to
a full circle (360*) around the valve stem, if the ball drops down
towards the valve seat in any position around the full circle of the
valve stem, it will be deemed illegal.
On the intake
side the carburetor will have to be removed and in some cases the intake
manifold for the same type of procedure, only the ball size will be
.787" NOTE: These methods of checking the head will hold true with a hot
or cold engine. Valve material must be 1 piece solid steel or stainless
steel. No titanium, or Sodium filled valve allowed. Note: The only
titanium allowed in these engines will be the valve spring retainers.
Any Carbon Fiber parts used in these engines will be illegal. Valve stem
maximum and minimum diameter must be, Chevy 11/32" Ford 11/32" Chrysler
3/8". Milling or angle milling of the cylinder head to any amount will
be allowed. Any amount of valve seats per cylinder head will be allowed
to be installed for the purpose of repairing a head. No epoxy or coating
of heads allowed. Note: Anyone found to be illegal in any way in the
cylinder head area will result in complete disqualification, losing all
moneys and points for the night. No protest or appeals will be given on
cylinder head infraction. Officials’ decision will be final.
F. CRANKSHAFT: Any
steel or cast iron allowed providing it maintains stock stroke as
manufactured for the engine block used.
G. RODS: OEM stock
production or aftermarket solid steel are allowed. No titanium or
aluminum rods.
H. VIBRATION
DAMPENERS: No aluminum dampeners.
I. CAMSHAFT: Any
make hydraulic or flat tappet allowed. (no roller cams, no mushroom
lifters allowed) No lash caps allowed. Shaft rockers are not allowed.
Roller rockers allowed. Engines with stock OEM shaft rockers are legal.
Lifters must maintain stock OEM diameters. Lifter bores must remain in
stock OEM positions and angles, but may be rebushed for wear. Must
maintain stock firing order.
J. INTAKE MANIFOLD:
No porting, polishing, welding, matching or acid etching. Permitted
intake manifolds are: CHEVY: Edelbrock Victor Junior Sportsman 2V,
Edelbrock Performer part number 2101 OR 2116, Edelbrock part number
5001. GM part numbers 2901 (Standard head) or 2912 (Vortec head) and
2913. 1” spacer or adaptor may be used, Weiand part number 7547.
FORD: Edelbrock part number 2181 or 5021; Ford part numbers 2940 or
2941, Weiand part number 7515; Chrysler 2915 Victor with adaptor or
Chrysler stock cast iron, Weiand part number 7545, Edelbrock part number
5076.
K. CARBURETOR: Any
American stock OEM 2 barrel carburetor up to 1 11/16" throttle bore with
no adapter plate is legal on cast iron manifolds. Holley carburetors,
part #4412 (2-barrel) and model #4160, part #03310-S, -C, -2, -3, -4,
-5, -6, or -7 (4-barrel) are acceptable and may run a maximum spacer
adapter of 1 1/16" including gaskets. The 03310 may have a maximum
throttle bore of 1 9/16”, and vacuum secondarys only. Only one (1)
carburetor, 2-barrel or 4-barrel may be used. No modifications of any
kind will be allowed to these carburetors except the removal of the
choke plate and shaft. Box stock only! The jets may be changed as
needed. Conventional round type air cleaners only. No air induction
plastic carburetor inserts or other devices to direct air into intake.
No air boxes or diffusers. No down leg boosters on 3310 series carbs.
CARBURETOR
MODIFICATIONS ALLOWED: Holes drilled in the throttle plates for proper
idling. Drilling, tapping and plugging of unused vacuum ports. Welding
of throttle shaft to linkage arm. Drilling of idle or high speed air
correction jets. Milling of center carburetor body metering block
surface. A maximum of .015" on each side. Any other modification not
mentioned is not legal.
L. IGNITION: Stock
OEM distributors and coils only. (No trigger ignition systems allowed.)
On H.E.I. ignition, coils must remain in distributor if stock OEM. On
point type distributors, coils must be stock. With any system used, only
one coil will be allowed on car. Firing order must remain stock.
M. LUBRICATION SYSTEM:
No dry sump system allowed. Oil must be in steel pan only. Oil pan must
have ¾" inspection hole for connecting rod verification on left side of
pan. No external oil pumps allowed. No Accu-sumps allowed. The use of
oil coolers will be permitted, providing they are mounted under the hood
only.
N. WATER PUMP:
Radiator fan must be steel only. No electric cooling fans or pumps.
O. FUEL PUMP: Must
remain in and be driven as stock OEM equipment. No electric pumps or
glass bowl filters.
NON-SPEC: 361
to 408:
A. Only North
American passenger car V-8 manufactured engines allowed with a maximum
displacement of 408 cu.in. maximum.
B. The engine block
and all internal parts must meet stock specifications for its make. No
bow-tie heads or blocks allowed.
C. All engine parts
must have casting or part numbers on them for identification.
D. CYLINDER HEADS:
Special note: Only cylinder heads produced by Chevy, Chrysler, or Ford
with their part and casting numbers approved by Speedway and pass the
ball check will be eligible to run. Cast Iron OEM stock production only.
Heads must be manufactured by manufacturer of engine block. Sand
blasting, bead blasting, acid-etching, porting, polishing, and welding
are prohibited. No relieving or unshrouding of valves in the combustion
chamber. The Ford GT 40, Chevy bow-tie, Chrysler w-2, and Ford
performance, Angle Plug heads will not be allowed. WORLD PRODUCT Part
Numbers 4265 and 4266 for GM Products, and part number 053020-A or B,
for FORD Windsor, will be the ONLY after market heads allowed. MOPAR
products are currently under investigation for a suitable substitute.
See "Special Notes" Valve head sizes optional providing they maintain
stock OEM positioning in valve guides (distance apart and angles). Valve
guide liners will be allowed. Any angle valve job will be permitted as
long as it is done on a machine that cuts concentric to the valve guide
center. There will be no hand grinding, sanding, blending or deburring
where a cutter or stone leaves off. The amount of metal you will be able
to remove in the bowl areas on both intake and exhaust will be governed
by the same method used by Speedway inspectors. Method of checking will
be as follows: On the exhaust side the header will have to be removed
and then the inspector will place a tool in the port which will consist
of a .531" diameter ball bearing welded to a flexible shaft. With the
valve fully opened the ball will be placed against the valve stem and
moved to a full circle (360*) around the valve stem, if the ball drops
down towards the valve seat in any position around the full circle of
the valve stem, it will be deemed illegal.
On the intake
side the carburetor will have to be removed and in some cases the intake
manifold for the same type of procedure, only the ball size will be
.787" NOTE: These methods of checking the head will hold true with a hot
or cold engine. Valve material must be 1 piece solid steel or stainless
steel. No titanium, or Sodium filled valve allowed. Note: The only
titanium allowed in these engines will be the valve spring retainers.
Any Carbon Fiber parts used in these engines will be illegal. Valve stem
maximum and minimum diameter must be, Chevy 11/32" Ford 11/32" Chrysler
3/8". Milling or angle milling of the cylinder head to any amount will
be allowed. Any amount of valve seats per cylinder head will be allowed
to be installed for the purpose of repairing a head. No epoxy or coating
of heads allowed. Note: Anyone found to be illegal in any way in the
cylinder head area will result in complete disqualification, losing all
moneys and points for the night. No protest or appeals will be given on
cylinder head infraction. Official’s decision will be final.
E. CRANK SHAFT:
Any steel or cast iron allowed providing it maintains stock stroke as
mfg. for the engine block used.
F. RODS: OEM or stock
appearing after-market steel rods are allowed. No titanium or aluminum
or light weight rods.
G. VIBRATION
DAMPENERS: No aluminum dampeners.
H. CAMSHAFTS: Any
make hydraulic allowed. (No roller cams, no mushroom lifters allowed)
No lash caps allowed. Shaft rockers are not allowed. Roller
rockers permitted. Engines with stock OEM shaft rockers are legal.
Lifters must maintain stock OEM diameters. Lifter bores must remain in
stock OEM positions and angles, but may be re-bushed for wear. Cam
must maintain stock firing order.
I. INTAKE MANIFOLD:
NO PORTING, POLISHING, WELDING, MATCH PORING, OR ACID ETCHING. Only
2101 or 2116 aluminum intakes allowed. Stock OEM cast iron intakes or
GM 14098499 allowed. Mer-cruiser intake allowed but “NO” adaptor plate
or spacer allowed.
J. CARBURETOR:
1. 2-Barrel - Any
American stock OEM 2-barrel carburetor up to 1 11/16" throttle bore with
no adapter plate is legal on cast iron manifolds. The Holley carburetor
part #4412 is acceptable and may run a maximum spacer adapter of 1 1/16"
including gaskets. No modifications of any kind will be allowed to these
carburetors except the removal of the choke plate and shaft. Box stock
only! The jets may be changed as needed. Conventional round type air
cleaners only. No air induction plastic carburetor inserts or other
devices to direct air into intake. No airboxes or diffusers.
Holley Carburetor
Modifications Allowed: Holes drilled in the throttle plate for proper
idling. Drilling, tapping and plugging of the unused vacuum ports.
Welding of throttle shaft to linkage arm. Drilling of idle or high speed
air correction jets. Milling of center carburetor body metering block
surface. A maximum of .015" on each side. Any modification not mentioned
is not legal.
2. 4-Barrel - Any
American stock OEM 4-barrel quadrajet or Holley 03310-S on GM vacuum
secondary. Holley on Ford and Chrysler part numbers must be visible.
1-1/16" maximum spacer plates(including gaskets). No modifications of
any kind will be allowed to these carburetors except the removal of the
choke plate and shaft. Box stock only! Conventional round type air
cleaners only. No air induction plastic carburetor inserts or other
devices to direct air into intake. No air boxes or diffusers. No dual
pumpers. No down leg boosters on 3310 series carbs.
K. FUEL: Gasoline
ONLY, no nitrous or any other additives.
L. IGNITION: Stock
OEM distributors and coils only. (No trigger ignition systems allowed.)
On H.E.I. ignition, coil must remain in distributor if stock OEM. On
point type distributor, coils must be stock. With any system used, only
one coil will be allowed on car. Firing order must remain stock.
M. LUBRICATION SYSTEM:
No dry sump system allowed. Oil must be in steel pan only. Oil pan must
have ¾" inspection hole for connecting rod verification on left side of
pan. No external oil pumps allowed. No Accu-sumps allowed. The use of
oil coolers will be permitted, providing they are mounted under the hood
only.
N. WATER PUMP: Radiator fan must be steel only. No electric
cooling fans or pumps.
O. FUEL PUMP: Must
remain in and be driven as stock OEM equipment. No electric pumps or
glass bowl filters.
P. NOTE: TRUCKS MAY
USE BIG BLOCKS BUT MUST USE THE SAME GUIDELINES AS SMALL BLOCKS.
21. TOW HOOKS:
Must be attached to the frame front and rear, extending above the
bumpers for easy access. Mandatory tow hooks in both the front and rear
of car.
22. TECH INSPECTIONS:
After feature, winner and other cars selected at random will be checked.
Illegal cars upon first offense will be delegated to last place money
and last place points; second offense will receive no money and no
points.
23. All vehicles must
have the capability of starting without being pushed or pulled or will
go to the rear.
24. NO RADIOS !!
25. ANYONE FOUND TO BE SPEEDING IN THE
PIT AREA WILL BE FINED $25.
26. No traction control of any kind – mechanical or
electronic allowed. All wiring from distributor or tachometer must be
in plain view for inspection and have no splices or interruption in
these wires. Speedway will have the right to confiscate any part of the
ignition system for further inspection. If parts are confiscated, prize
money and points will be held until results of inspection are known.
All legal parts will be returned within 5 days. Violation of any of
these rules will result in disqualification.
NOTE: The preceding
rules and regulations are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of
racing events and to establish minimum acceptable standards and
requirements for such events. By participating in these events, all
participants are deemed to have complied with these rules and
regulations. No expressed and/or implied warranty or safety
assurance shall result from publication of, or compliance with, the
preceding rules and regulations. They are intended as a guide and are
in no way a guarantee to any participant, driver or official, against
injury or death. Any of the preceding rules maybe subject to
revision if it is felt that the change would be in the interest of
safety or the Division. Track Officials have the right to make
decisions and to rule accordingly, in the interest of safety, without
recourse from the drivers and/or owners. Track Officials will decide
anything not covered in the preceding rules and regulations if, and
when, it becomes necessary.

Transponders will
be used for scoring at Tri-City.
Once you have your
transponder, you will need
to provide us with
the ID number to enter in our
scoring system.
Transponders must be mounted
on the right rear
frame rail a minimum of 12” from
the rear axle
centerline. The transponder must be
mounted vertically
with no obstruction between the
transponder and the
ground. It is recommended
that a shield be
installed in front of the transponder
for protection from
clay and debris. If using a
rechargeable
transponder with a mounting bracket,
it is recommended
that the transponder be reinforced
with tie wraps or
the like to prevent dislodging. Do
not rely solely on
the cotter pin.
No offset cages. If
kickout
is used on left side it
must be kicked
out on right side of
equal distance
and cage mounted
centered with
chassis from back of
midrail section,
stock OEM rear frame
must be used
including front spring
brackets and
continue out to include
upper stock
shock mounts. Box tube

MANDATORY SAFETY RULES
1. All cars are subject to
inspection at any time and must be free from mechanical defects and be
in safe racing condition.
2. Driver’s seat must be securely
fastened to frame or cage 3/8" bolts minimum. It is recommended that
seats mounted over drivelines have a minimum 1/8" steel plate under and
up the back 4" and be as wide as seat.
3. Flame retardant/shock resistant
padding must be installed anywhere the driver may come in contact with
driver’s head or any other points of contact. (To include the center
of the steering wheel.)
4. All cars must have 4 (four)
wheel hydraulic brakes, all in good working order. Steel rotors only.
5. Battery must be properly secured
and must have top and terminals completely covered by rubber.
6. Fuel lines, power steering
lines, and fittings running through driver’s compartment must be of
approved type. (Braided lines recommended.) NO CAST IRON FITTINGS.
7. Exhaust headers must be safe for
driver and recommended to exit past driver’s seat.
8. All cars must be equipped with
5-point seatbelts to “SF1 16.1 specifications”. All belts must be
securely fastened to frame or cage. The sternum shoulder harness is
highly recommended. Belts older than 48 months will not be allowed.
Damaged belts will also not be allowed.
9. Tri-City Speedway highly
recommends all drivers wear newest Snell approved full-face helmet
and clean one piece SFI drivers suit, underwear, head sock, gloves, foot
socks, and shoes to SFI specification 3.2A & 3.3, arm restraints
and neck brace.
10. No drums of racing fuel may be brought onto the track
premises

Retention of Vehicles
and Parts as per Insurance Requirement:
Participant
hereby grants Tri-City Speedway full and unconditional permission to
collect and retain vehicles, parts of vehicles, equipment, or any other
items used in conjunction with participation that are owned by or in the
possession of participant or present at an event (collectively “items”),
including such items that may be relevant to the investigation of an
accident; the inspection or testing of such items, or for any other
purpose Tri-City Speedway may exercise this right to take and retain
items at any time when Tri-City Speedway determines in its sole and
absolute discretion that such actions are necessary. When an item is
suspected of being out of compliance with a Tri-City Speedway rule, or
when an item has been involved in an incident, Tri-City Speedway may in
its sole and absolute discretion collect and retain such items if
Tri-City Speedway believes it necessary to do so to further investigate,
make a final determination, and/or preserve evidence, all in Tri-City
Speedway’s sole and absolute discretion. At any time that Tri-City
Speedway collects and retains items, Tri-City Speedway will try to
safeguard such items and return such items when Tri-City Speedway has
completed its work with them, but Tri-City Speedway makes no
representations or warranties that the items will not be lost, damaged,
destructively tested, destroyed, or otherwise affected. The rights
granted to Tri-City Speedway in this subsection shall also apply to any
Tri-City Speedway track officials.
