TRI-CITY SPEEDWAY READY FOR OIL REGION LABOR DAY CLASSIC;
PURSES FOR E MODS AND PRO STOCKS FINALIZED
by Brian Spaid
August 26, 2007
FRANKLIN,
PA
…. Taking a final break for the season, Tri-City Speedway was closed for
racing action on Sunday night, but track officials are ready for the
biggest race of the season, the Oil Region Labor Day Classic on Saturday
and Sunday September 1st and 2nd.
Each night features a complete show of the World of
Outlaws Late Model Series culminating with a 50-lap main event paying
$10,000-to-win along with the RPM Auto Sales/Shawgo Real Estate E Mods
and E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro Stocks.
The purses, bonus money and lap sponsors for the E Mod
and Pro Stock divisions have been finalized. The E Mods will be racing
for over $11,000 over the course of both days. That includes $700-to-win
each race with additional bonus and lap money for Sunday’s All Star 30.
The Pro Stocks will compete for over $7,000 in their two races
combined. All prize money is listed below.
“It was nice having the extra weekend to get ready for
the Oil Region Labor Day Classic,” noted Tri-City Co-Promoter Mike
Graham. “We’re really looking forward to this coming weekend’s events.
While a lot of people talk about the World of Outlaws Late Models
Series, we cannot forget the great racing in the E Mods and Pro Stocks.
We’ve put together an excellent variety of races with strong purses for
both of those divisions. In addition, there is no entry fee for any
division, which is really unique for an event like this.”
The Late Models will invade Tri-City in full force on
Saturday and Sunday night. Time trials and qualifying events will set
the 24-car field for the 50-lap feature event each night. The winner of
the each race will earn $10,000 with $700-to-start.
The E Mods will run a complete series of qualifying
events followed by a feature race on both nights as part of the
Allegheny Toyota E Series. Saturday’s event will be a 20-lap affair
paying $700-to-win and $100-to-start. Sunday’s race will be the All Star
30 paying $750-to-win, which includes the $50 prize for leading the
final lap, and $150-to-start. With the exception of the race winner, all
of the finishing positions in the All Star 30 offer additional bonus
money that totals nearly $2,000, and there is $900 in lap leader money
available.
The Pro Stocks will run on both nights in races that
count towards the title in the William R. Karns Plumbing, Heating and
Air Conditioning Detroit Iron Pro Stock Series. Each event will feature
a complete series of qualifying events followed by a 20-lap feature race
paying $500-to-win and $75-to-start. Both events will provide excellent
track time for drivers and teams to prepare for the 11th
Annual CSOnline Applefest 100, which is scheduled for Sunday, September
16th.
On Saturday night after the races, Engles Trucking and
Ray’s Racing Specialties have returned as sponsors of “The Ghetto South
Party,” which features a huge bonfire and the live band “Intent.” For
the last two years, that band has entertained the crowd. There is no
admission to the party or band. In addition, there will be free camping
at the speedway all weekend for those attending the races only.
Gates open each night at 2:00 p.m. No fans will be
allowed to reserve seats with blankets until Saturday at that time.
Racing starts each night with hot laps for the World of Outlaws Late
Model Series at 4 p.m. followed immediately by time trials. Once time
trials are complete, the track crew intends to work on the track before
hot laps are held for the E Mods and Pro Stocks. The first heat races
are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Adult grandstand admission will be $30 each night or a
two-day ticket costs $50. Pit admission will be $35 each night or a
two-day ticket costs $60. There is no entry fee for any division.
For more information, please contact the track office
at (814) 473-4038.
Tri-City Speedway is owned and operated by Roger and
Susie Crick and Mike and Margaret Graham. They have promoted Sunday
night racing at the popular facility since they reopened it in 1996. The
Super Sprints, DIRT Modifieds, E Mods, Pro Stocks and Thundercars race
each week at the Venango
County half-mile dirt oval.
Tri-City is located seven miles north of Franklin,
Pa., off State
Route 417.
