TRI-CITY SPEEDWAY RAINED OUT FOR THIRD TIME IN 2007
by Brian Spaid
August 5, 2007
FRANKLIN,
PA …. Early afternoon rains invaded Tri-City Speedway forcing track
officials to cancel Sunday night’s races at the half-mile Venango County
oval. This was the third rainout of the 2007 season.
Next Sunday August 12th, Tri-City will
return to action with a five-star show featuring the 4 Your Car
Connection Super Sprints, Schwab’s Ford DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, RPM
Auto Sales/Shawgo Real Estate E Mods, E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro
Stocks, and Klapec Auto Body Thundercars on Armed Forces Night. In
addition, the Coors Brewing Bonus Bucks Night was rescheduled for the
same night.
The show will also feature the Maurer’s Trading Post
Rifle Dash. The point leaders in all five divisions will enter a blind
draw to determine which two divisions will compete in two dashes. The
top five pointmen in those divisions will be inverted for the start of
each dash event, with the winner of each dash to receive a free rifle
courtesy of Maurer’s Trading Post in
Franklin.
In 2006, David Atkinson (E Mods) and Charlie McMillen (Thundercars) won
the rifle dash events.
As a result of this week’s rainout, two drivers are
eligible to clinch track championships next Sunday with only two point
events remaining on the 2007 schedule. Those drivers include Rod George
of Kittanning, Pa. (Super Sprints) and Doug Iorio II of Kennerdell,
Pa., (Pro Stocks).
On Sunday August 12th, the gates open at 4
p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Adult grandstand admission will remain
at $11.
Tri-City Speedway is owned and operated by Roger and
Susie Crick and Mike and Margaret Graham. They have promoted Sunday
night racing at the popular facility since they reopened it in 1996. The
Super Sprints, DIRT Modifieds, E Mods, Pro Stocks and Thundercars race
each week at the Venango
County half-mile dirt oval.
Tri-City is located seven miles north of Franklin,
Pa., off State
Route 417.
