TRI-CITY SPEEDWAY TAKES A MIDSUMMER BREAK HEADING INTO THE FINAL
STRETCH IN THE RACE FOR DIVISION TITLES
by Brian Spaid
July 29, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FRANKLIN, PA ... Tri-City Speedway was closed on Sunday night for
a midsummer break, and action will resume next week with only three
point events left on the calendar.
Currently, the point leaders in all five divisions include Rod
George (4 Your Car Connection Super Sprints), Kevin Bolland (Schwab’s
Ford DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds), Carl McKinney (RPM Auto Sales/Shawgo
Real Estate E Mods), Doug Iorio II (E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro
Stocks) and Bill Myers (Klapec Auto Body Thundercars).
Barring any major problems, George, Iorio and Myers have nearly
clinched the titles in the respective divisions. The battle for the
championships in the other two classes is tight, however.
In the DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, Bolland holds a seven point
edge over Rex King with Russell King and Jeremiah Shingledecker hot on
their heels. For the last three seasons, Rex King has been the
bridesmaid in the final point standings, including the 2006 title
chase won by Bolland. King is clearly gunning to break his runner-up
streak.
In the other close title chase, McKinney holds a 70-point edge over
Shawn Shingledecker in the battle for the E Mod championship. Neither
driver has ever won a track title at Tri-City, although
Shingledecker’s team captured the 2006 E Mod championship with former
teammate Brent Rhebergen.
George is searching for his fourth Super Sprint track title in the
last six seasons. On the strength of eight feature wins, George has a
144-point lead over defending track champion Bob Felmlee. Not only can
George collect another championship, he can also break his own record
of nine feature wins in a single season. With two more wins, George
will reach a milestone of 50 career feature wins at Tri-City.
Trying to match his father’s championship winning effort in 1996,
Iorio holds a 156-point lead over Danny Exley in the chase for the Pro
Stock title. Last season, Iorio was edged for the championship by
Bobby Whitling. This season, Iorio is the dominant force in Pro Stock
competition at the Venango County half-mile oval, and holds the
largest point lead in all of the divisions.
In the Thundercars, Myers has already announced his intentions to
move up to another class of competition in 2008. He has some
unfinished business in 2007, however, as he seeks to clinch the
Thundercar title. Currently, Myers has a 99-point lead over Josh
Seippel, who is mired in a seven-team battle for runner-up honors in
the class. That point battle is the most competitive in track history.
Tri-City Speedway will return to action on Sunday August 5th with a
five-star program featuring the 4 Your Car Connection Super Sprints,
Schwab’s Ford DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, RPM Auto Sales/Shawgo Real
Estate E Mods, E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro Stocks, and Klapec
Auto Body Thundercars. It will be Coors Brewing Bonus Bucks Night at
the track with extra money on the line for the feature winners. Gates
open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Adult grandstand admission
will remain a family friendly $11.
