BOB FELMLEE FLIES TO WILD SPRINT WIN OVER ROD GEORGE AT TRI-CITY SPEEDWAY; JEREMIAH SHINGLEDECKER, CARL McKINNEY, JASON REAGLE AND BILL MYERS WIN TOO
by Brian Spaid

July 8, 2007

FRANKLIN, PA  ... Hot and sunny conditions prevailed on Sunday night at Tri-City Speedway as Bob Felmlee (4 Your Car Connection Super Sprints), Jeremiah Shingledecker (Schwab’s Ford DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds), Carl McKinney (RPM Auto Sales/Shawgo Real Estate E Mods), Jason Reagle (E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro Stocks) and Bill Myers (Klapec Auto Body Thundercars) captured feature wins on Buyer’s Fair/Pennzoil and Scout Night at the Venango County half-mile oval.

In another stellar Super Sprint feature, Bob Felmlee of Franklin, Pa., beat point leader Rod George to the finish line by 0.086 seconds for his second win of the season. George actually passed Felmlee off turn two on the final circuit, but Felmlee made a daring move under George in turns three and four, then held off George bringing the crowd to a wild frenzy. Felmlee piloted his World of Wheels/Carmate Trailers/Lutz Auto Body Maxim No. 6 to his 29th career win at Tri-City.

“Rod’s dominated here this year, and I wanted to win this one,” said the defending track champion. “I setup that lapped car to pass him in the middle groove, and then I saw Rod ride by me on the outside. I decided to drive it hard into three and see what happened.”

Starting on the pole position of the 20-lap main, Felmlee jumped into an immediate lead. George passed Todd Bauer for second on the second circuit and set his sights on Felmlee. The outside cushion was superb on this hot and humid night, and Felmee used it to perfection opening a huge lead that George could not close. When Felmlee entered lapped traffic, George started to bridge the gap. Behind them, Bauer and Rob Eyler dueled amidst the lapped cars for third until the 13th circuit when Eyler collided with Sammy Strauser on the frontstretch causing both cars to spin and crash. On the ensuing restart, Felmlee dashed away from George. The race appeared to be over until the final circuits. George started to close on Felmlee, and they entered more lapped traffic. Taking the white flag, Felmlee tried to setup a pass on the lapped car of Paul Kish. Instead, George streaked by Felmlee off the outside of turn two. Using a daring pass on the inside, Felmlee drove hard into turn three, raced under George and Kish, then drifted high holding off George’s last ditch pass to the inside to take the win. Bauer finished third over Jody Keegan and Andy McKisson, who recovered from an early 360-degree spin to race back to fifth. George and McKisson won the Super Sprint heat races.

Jeremiah Shingledecker of Polk, Pa., dominated the 20-lap DIRTcar Big Block Modified main. Like Felmlee, Shingledecker started on the pole position. However, Shingledecker was peerless on this night. Building momentum on the high side of the half-mile, Shingledecker cruised to the win, which was his third of the season, after a string of recent bad luck in his Carmate Trailers/Quaker Steak & Lube/Lou Heath & Son Excavating and Trucking Bicknell No. 37MD. It was Shingledecker’s eighth career win at Tri-City.

“Our team needed this win,” said Shingledecker after his eighth career victory at Tri-City. “I’d like to thank my dad and the entire crew for all their hard work. The high side was the best it’s been all season.”

Shingledecker took immediate command of the race at the start. Behind him, Rex King Jr. ran second until his father, Rex King, took the position on the second circuit following a restart. The youngest King surprised the elder King taking back second on the fourth circuit. Another restart on the eighth circuit almost proved to be King Jr.’s undoing when the sophomore sensation drifted high in turn four and allowed his father and Kevin Bolland to pass him. However, King Jr. lucked out when a car spun in turn one to cause a caution that returned him to second. He held that position on the ensuing restart, but Bolland passed the elder King for third. Bolland challenged King Jr. for about three laps before King Jr.’s tires heated and he pulled away from the point leader. In the end, Shingledecker won by over four seconds. King Jr. scored his best career finish in second followed by Bolland, Rex King and Russell King. Chris Schiffer and Del Rougeux Jr. won the DIRTcar Big Block Modified heats.

Carl McKinney of Cranberry Township, Pa., padded his point lead with his second win of the season in the 15-lap E Mod feature.  Piloting Mike Hendrickson’s Holden Precision Machine Pierce No. 6M, McKinney held off the hard charging Bruce Powell for his third career win at Tri-City. At the finish, McKinney beat Powell by only 0.185 seconds.

“That was a little close at the end,” said the smiling McKinney in victory lane. “Bruce ran a good race and he raced me clean. I think his tires fired better then mine after that last restart, and he was able to hang in there to almost beat us. I’d like to wish my car owner a happy birthday, and I’d like to dedicate this win to my wife and our baby girl.”

Tim Engles took the early lead in the race, which was slowed by two early cautions, including one that involved the winner over the last two weeks, Shawn Shingledecker. On the third circuit, McKinney charged by Engles to take command. Three laps later, Powell raced outside Engles off turn two to take second. Jason Johns made the same move by Engles on the next lap to take third. McKinney held a commanding lead until the 11th circuit, when rookie Adam Beck spun in turn two. After the restart, Powell charged under McKinney and nearly pulled off the winning pass. McKinney continued to lead Powell, who would not give up his relentless effort to score a first-ever win at Tri-City. Off the final corner, McKinney used his momentum on the high side to beat Powell to the line. Johns finished third over Justin Carlson and Mike Potosky. Johns and Evan Taylor won the E Mod heats.

Jason Reagle of Oil City, Pa., is on a hot streak in Western Pennsylvania after his third Pro Stock feature win in the last two weeks. Taking the lead on the sixth circuit of the 15-lap feature event, Reagle raced to his second consecutive win at Tri-City. It was his second win of the weekend after a victory Saturday night at Mercer Raceway Park in his R.K. Virgile Scrap Metals Dodge No. Triple 8.

“This car seems to work anywhere,” said Reagle after his third win of the season and the seventh of his career at Tri-City. “I can’t explain it. I need to thank the entire crew, Brad Sheatz for the motor, and R.K. Virgile for this win.”

Dave Ferringer parlayed his pole position into the lead at the end of the first circuit. Rookie Don Kramer started on the outside pole, and kept pace with Ferringer for two circuits. Reagle then moved into second and hunted down Ferringer. He tried to make passes to the inside, but they failed each time as Ferringer shut the door. Moving to the outside lane, Reagle passed Ferringer for the lead in the end of the sixth circuit, but the move was nullified by a caution. On the restart, Ferringer was no match for Reagle, who was officially in command after six laps. Two laps later, Doug Iorio II used the outside cushion to also move by Ferringer. For the remainder of the race, Iorio tried valiantly to catch Reagle to no avail. Reagle topped Iorio by 1.792 seconds at the finish. Ferringer was third while Russ Coyne and Denny Crawford rounded out the top five. Iorio and Coyne won the Pro Stock heat races.

Bill Myers of Seneca, Pa., made an awesome charge through the field after starting 11th, and took the lead on the 10th circuit of the 12-lap Thundercar feature to capture his third victory of the season in his Color Tek/R.K. Virgile Scrap Metals/Corner Pocket Bar Chevrolet No. 43M.

“It takes a lot of people and sponsors to put this car on the track, and I have to thank all of them,” said Myers after his fourth career win. “It is a full-time job. That was tough tonight.”

Regina Deloe took the lead at the start of the race. She held the top spot until the sixth circuit when Ed Deloe drove by her at the line. In those first six laps, however, Myers was a rocket. He moved into the top five on the fourth circuit. After taking fourth, he raced side-by-side with Bill Winters for third while the Deloes dueled beside each other in front of them. On the seventh circuit, Winters found room under Regina Deloe off turn two to move into second. Two laps later, Myers passed Ed Deloe for the lead. Once out front, Myers was unchallenged as he captured the win. Ed Deloe finished second over Cody Manners, who passed Winters on the final lap for third. Winters and Regina Deloe rounded out the top five. Josh Seippel and Myers won the Thundercar heats.
