Franklin, PA ...
Teenage racer Jackson Humanic scored his first Pro-Stock feature win of
the 2009 racing season and Jeremiah Shingledecker, Mike Pegher, Jr.,
Mike Potosky and Jeff Manners scored repeat wins at the Tri-City
Speedway on Sunday evening as Fisher and Father presented “Five Star”
Racing Action plus the Changing Times Mod-Lite Mini Series.
Sixteen-year-old
Jackson Humanic followed in the footsteps of his teammate Matt Thomas,
who was last week’s Pro-Stock winner, as he picked up his first feature
victory of the 2009 racing season. Cochranton veteran Dave Ferringer
led the first two circuits of the non-stop 15-lap event before Humanic
took over the top spot. Defending divisional points champion Jason
Reagle challenged Humanic on laps five through nine before retiring to
the pit area with a mechanical problem. Humanic was never seriously
challenged for the six remaining laps and went on to capture his third
career Tri-City victory.
Bobby Whitling
captured the runner-up spot and was followed by Jason Johns, Don Cramer
and Randy Wyant.
Whitling and Humanic
were the winners of the EF Rodgers Plumbing and Heating Pro-Stock heats.
An “Invert Zero”
redraw placed heat race winners Jeremiah Shingledecker and Rex King, Jr.
on the front row of the 20-lap Engles Trucking DIRTcar Modifed feature
event. Youngster Rex King, Jr. led the first circuit before
Shingledecker took command on lap two. The event, which went non-stop
and was completed in six minutes and 47 seconds, was Shingledecker’s
third Tri-City victory of the season. Kevin Bolland picked up the
second spot, with King, Jr. Andy Priest and Brad Rapp rounding out the
top five.
Youngster Mike
Pegher, Jr. continued his winning ways as he led the 20-lap 4-Your Car
Connection FASTRAK Late Model feature from green to checkered to pick up
his second Tri-City victory of the season. It was also Pegher’s second
victory of the weekend as he picked up the FASTRAK Northeast Touring
event the previous evening at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex.
Pegher Jr.,
weathered three cautions as a spin by Bryan Salisbury on lap two and
spins by Tyler Barris on laps nine and 15 slowed the action, to hold off
veteran David Scott for the popular win. Max Blair, Bobby Powell and
Carl McKinney (who started in the last position) rounded out the top
five.
Pegher, Jr. and
Butch Lambert were victorious in 4-Your Car Connection FASTRAK Late
Model heat race action.
Rod Jones continued
his domination of the Changing Times Mod-Lite Mini Series as he picked
up his second Tri-City feature victory in three weeks. Just like Pegher,
Jr. in the feature event before, Jones led the entire distance of the
event. Rick Ament, Alan Knepper, Terry Young and David Innes completed
the top five.
Jones also picked up
the lone Mod-Lite heat race earlier in the evening.
Another “Invert
Zero” redraw placed Al Cressley and Shawn Shingledecker on the front row
of the RPM Auto Sales/Shawgo Real Estate E-Mod feature event.
Shingledecker quickly took command; however a miscue in turn one found
the Shingledecker’s Welding #54S landing in the turn one safety barrier
soon after crossing the start/finish line as the first lap was
completed.
When the field
restarted, Cressley would lead the next two circuits before Potosky used
the high side of the speedway to take the lead on the fourth lap.
Potosky and Cressley waged a ”side by side” battle for the remainder of
the feature event with Potosky winning the battle to the checkered
flag. Tim Engles had his best finish of 2009 as he picked up third.
Carl McKinney and Evan Taylor rounded out the top five.
As noted earlier
Cressley and Shingledecker were the winners in the E-Mod preliminaries.
The Klapec Auto Body
Thundercar finale found 15 drivers vying for the $200.00 first place
prize money. The initial start was negated when Charlie McMillen
broke. On the second attempt to start Alan Perry suffered mechanical
woes and the caution was once again displayed.
The third restart
found “Lady Racer” Regina Deloe beating the guys to the green flag.
Deloe led the first two circuits before Manners, who had started sixth,
took command. In spite of three cautions that slowed the field, Manners
was able to maintain the lead as he held off the persistent challenges
of Greg Myers and score his second win of the season. Jon Huff, Dave
Baker and Deloe followed.
Baker and Myers won
the Klapec Auto Body Thundercar prelims.
Racing action at
Tri-City Speedway resumes on Sunday, June 14th, as the All Star Late
Model Series stops by the Venango County oval. Stars such as Boom
Briggs, Robbie Blair, Coleby Frye and Jared Miley are expected to battle
for the $5,000 first place prize money. The 4-Your Car Connection
FASTRAK Late Models, EF Rodgers Plumbing and Heating Pro Stocks and the
RPM Auto Sales/Shawgo Real Estate E-Mods will also be in competition.
