Jeremiah and Shawn Shingledecker Bring Home Victories,
Randy Wyant Captures Career First in Pro Stock Action, Jeff Manners and
Max Blair Also Celebrate First Wins of 2009
by Marcie L. Barlow
April 26, 2009
Franklin, PA, ...
The H&H Motorsports era at the Tri-City Speedway began on Sunday night
as Jeremiah Shingledecker (Engles Trucking DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds),
Max Blair (4 Your Car Connection FASTRAK Late Models), Shawn
Shingledecker (RPM Auto Sales/Sherry Shawgo Real Estate E Mods), Randy
Wyant (E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro Stocks) and Jeff Manners (Klapec
Auto Body Thundercars) collected feature wins at the Venango County
oval.
Jeremiah
Shingledecker of Polk, PA would lead just one lap of the 20-lap feature
event, but it was the most important lap as Shingledecker used the
inside line of the race track to get by veteran Jim Rasey and claim the
first checkered flag of 2009.
“I want to thank my
brother and crew chief, Travis, for getting this new Bicknell chassis
dialed in. This is our seventh race with the new car and he had it
hooked up perfectly,” said Shingledecker.
It was
Shingledecker’s third consecutive year to claim the DIRTcar Modified
opener at the Franklin, PA oval as he also captured the 2007 adn 2008
opening day feature events.
Rasey, who had led
the first 19 laps of the event, settled for second over Andy Priest, Joe
Crawford and Dave Murdick. The event was slowed by one major caution as
a lap nine spin by Jeremy Paup also collected Rex King, Sr., Rex King,
Jr. Dean Pearson and Mike Turner. King Jr., Paup and Pearson retired
from the event as a result of the incident.
Shingledecker and
Crawford won the DIRTcar Modified heat events.
Local teenager and
reigning FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series champion Max Blair
of Centerville, PA, continued his winning ways as he captured the 4 Your
Car Connection FASTRAK Late Model eature event.
Bob McCann and
Stephen Hollabaugh led the 20-car field to the green. Bryan Salisbury
would lead the first two circuits before Alan Dellinger took over the
lead on lap three. Dellinger battled with Mike Pegher, Jr. for several
laps with Blair slowly reeling in the twosome. By lap seven Blair was
on Dellinger’s tail and the teen sensation dove under Dellinger as the
pair entered turn four on lap seven. Blair came out with the lead went
on to capture his seventh Tri-City Speedway FASTRAK Late Model win.
Bobby Powell, Pegher,
Jr., David Scott and Salisbury completed the top five. Blair and Scott
were victorious in the FASTRAK Late Model preliminary events.
Oil City, PA driver
Randy Wyant captured his first career feature event as he led the E.F.
Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro Stock feature from start to finish. Wyant,
who has shown marked improvement since his debut in the division several
years ago, held off the challenges of veterans Chris Haines and Jason
Johns to bring home a very well deserved feature win. Johns, FASTRAK
Late Model competitor David Scott, who was driving the Matt Thomas owned
#54, Haines and Bob Sloss rounded out the top five.
Wyant began his
“perfect” evening by capturing a heat event win, while Haines captured
the other Pro Stock heat event.
Shawn Shingledecker
of Franklin, PA, followed the lead of his cousin Jeremiah quite well as
he captured the RPM Auto Sales/Sherry Shawgo Real Estate E Mod feature
event. Shingledecker, who started in the tenth spot methodically,
worked his way through traffic to overtake New Castle, PA driver Ron
Roncaglione on lap 13. Shingledecker then held off a hard charging Carl
McKinney to capture his first checkered flag of the 2009 racing season.
McKinney, Roncaglione, Tim Engles and Tim Peterson rounded out the top
five.
Engles captured the
E mod prelim earlier in the evening.
Jeff Manners proved
to be a worthy substitute for his son Cody as Manners dominated the
12-lap Klapec Auto Body Thundercar feature. It was Manners' 13th
career Thundercar victory as he has competed in the class since its
inception in 2003. Jon Huff, Greg Myers, Bill Winters and Scott Kilgore
completed the top five in the event.
Manners and Dave
Baker captured the Thundercar heat events. In addition Cochranton
driver Jace Ferringer was uninjured after taking a hard tumble at the
completion of the evening’s first heat event.
Racing action at the
Tri-City Speedway will return next Sunday, May 3rd as H&H
Motorsports present the Spring Sprint Spectacular featuring the Winged
Super Sprints, which will battle for 30 laps with the winner collecting
a $2,500 payday. In addition, the ULMS Late Model Series will make
their first ever appearance at the speedway as Northern Tier drivers
such as Ron Davies, Boom Briggs and Dave Hess, Jr., will battle hometown
favorites Robbie Blair and Darrell Bossard. The RPM Auto Sales/Sherry
Shawgo Real Estate E Mods, E.F. Rogers Plumbing & Heating Pro Stocks and
Klapec Auto Body Thundercars will also be in competition. Gates open at
